Inspired to play the piano by her older sister, Alexandra Ma began her music journey at age six. Since then, she loves to play the piano and has been a recipient of numerous awards in national and international music competitions.
In 2018, she was invited to perform at The 6th International Youth Arts Festival Concert. In addition, Alexandra was chosen as a Second Place Winner (Young Musicians Category) of American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music 2018, and performed in the Winner’s Recital at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. She was a scholarship recipient in the North York Music and Performing Arts Festival 2018. She also received her Multi-Disciplines Trophy.
In 2019, Alexandra received a scholarship for an Age Achievement Trophy and First Place in the Chopin Class of CCC Piano & Violin Competition. She was invited to Krystian Tkaczewski’s International Piano Masterclass in Kurozwęki Palace, Poland. She also played a recital in the Chopin Festival at Kurozwęki Palace. In November 2019, Alexandra was invited to play at the Rising Stars Concert. She received six first awards and two scholarships for Age Achievement at the 2019 Unionville Music Competition.
In 2020, she got First Place at the Livorno Piano Competition in Livorno, Italy. Alexandra received First prize at the 30th Young Musician International Competition ‘Città di Barletta’ online Edition. At the CCC Piano & Violin Competition, she won several first prizes and the Chopin Trophy. She also performed in the Gala Concert in September 2020.
In 2021, Alexandra received her Associate Diploma (ARCT) from the Royal Conservatory of Music. She got the Gold Award in the Steinway Piano Competition 2021. She also received multiple Gold Awards and the ‘Expressive Performance’ Special Prize from the London Young Musician. She took part in a fundraising concert for SickKids Hospital. She participated in masterclasses with Daniel Shapiro and Ronan O’Hora at the Orford Academy. Alexandra also had masterclasses with Professor Steven Spooner and Yong Hi Moon at the Chicago International Music Festival.
In 2022, Alexandra received the Pianist of the Year Star Award from the London Young Musician of the Year. She also won First Place in the Junior Artist category at the Beethoven Young Musician Competition. At the Outstanding Young Musician International (OYMI) Music Festival, she received 4 First Prizes and was awarded the OYMI Music Festival Concert Tour Award. She also performed in masterclasses with Angela Park and Alan Hobbins at the Royal Conservatory of Music.
Her favourite composers are Chopin, Bach, Mozart, and Debussy. In her free time, Alexandra enjoys reading, solving math problems, collecting stamps, knitting, gardening, walking in the morning and sunset and riding her scooter. Outside of school, Alexandra has a job as an Assistant Teacher for Spirit of Math Schools, and is a Research Coordinator at World in Focus.
She currently studies with Dr. Michael Berkovsky at the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists at the Royal Conservatory of Music.
